LISTEN NICARAGUA NATIONAL ANTHEM

The National Flag. Nicaragua has had 3 flags in its history. The first one was the same as the other Central American countries because the entire region was called "Federal Republic of Central America", after the independence from Spain. That was in 1823 and 14 years later, each country declared themselves Independent States hence, they changed their flags. However, Nicaragua mantained the same colors as the original flag, like other countries did. In 1854, president Fruto Chamorro adapted a flag with 3 horizontal stripes. Then in 1908, president José Santos Zelaya made some changes to that flag, which is the current one.

The Nacional Seal has the shape of an equilateral triangle, meaning that all Nicaraguans are the same; black, white, rich or poor. The 5 volcanoes represent the five republics of Central America. The "gorro frigio"(the red object above the volcanoes) represents the liberty we enjoy and the rainbow represents peace for all Nicaraguans.
